Friday afternoon, 14-year old Katie Krize ended her battle with relapsed Neuroblastoma and earned her Heavenly wings. We at it's 4 the kids send our sincere condolences to the Krize family.

Meet BAILEY! Who just got the best news a little kid could get! CLEAR SCANS and NO MORE TUMOR!!

The following comes directly from the carepages:
"He was diagnosed April 2006 with stage III Rhabdomyosarcoma. Which is a very aggresive soft muscle tumor. His was located in his nasal cavity. He recieved 42 weeks of chemo along with six weeks of radiation which was every single day. He tolerated the chemos really well except for neuropathy on his hands and legs due to one of the chemos, but even that could not stop him.
He finished his last dose of chemo on Valentine's Day of 2007. He relapsed less than one month after that. After that he relapsed we were told that he had less that 10% chance of survival and that they never thought that he would ever be able to get off of chemo. So basically we would keep him for as long as he could tolerate the chemos."

A Birthday Surprise for a Caring Bridge Family...

Hello there loyal readers,
I got an email from a friend today regarding a boy in my home town.

Meet Ronald...(following info cited from his caring bridge page)

"Ronald was admitted into A I Dupont hospital on February 27,2008 for a Grade IV liver laceration from a backyard football game with his friends. For 7 weeks doctors worked vigorously to support his body's functions in efforts to allow his liver laceration to heal on it's own to avoid a large operation. On April 12, 2008 after many failed attempts at feeding Ronald from a feeding tube that goes way past his stomach into parts of the intestine the decision was made to take Ronald to surgery to remove the left lobe of his liver. The surgery was a success! After sending the left lobe for biopsy a horrifying truth was told. Ronald was diagnosed with Burkitt's Leukemia. His prognosis is better then 50% survival and cure rate!"

Ronald's birthday is June 8th, he will be 13! His mom wants to make his first "teen" birthday a memorable one by wall-papering his room with birthday cards.

This is our chance to put "it's 4 the kids" on the map!

Send Ronald a card, have your children hand-make a card, make one yourself and help his mom excel in her new wall-papering career...

Happy Day CJ!

I was honored to send CJ Shaw (cp: cjshaw) and his family almost $500 raised from the sale of Namesakes and other artwork on my personal blog. All of this money was raised before this site was finished being created.CJ was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma on December 1, 2006. He is on his fourth treatment since the surgery and his tumors have not shrunk and doctors have located a few more on his spine since his last round of chemo. CJ is now taking temozolamide orally each night.

CJ's family was suffering some financial difficulties and I was given their name by my BFF Mimi Avery (cp: juliansworld) and I am proud to say that my amazing readers stepped up and we raised $478 within 2 weeks.

Please pray for CJ, his family, their financial situation and for his doctors...they are in need of a medical miracle.

Conversations with Cancer...

Childhood cancer is a fight no one wants to imagine; some can’t stomach. Please don’t stop reading. Please don’t click away from this page.

None of us want to (if we don’t have to) feel the gut-wrenching pain of watching a child fight for her life. It’s an impossible thing to imagine, it’s something you want to breeze by to protect your heart. It’s something you can’t digest. Their skin is burned, their little heads bald. It’s horrific but they are counting on you.

I spent the weekend with Mimi and our friend Haley. We traveled on Sunday to Maryland to be with John Eric and his family. John Eric was a toddler who had just been placed on hospice care. I was nervous. I truly didn’t want to go; I felt I would be the elephant in the room, the obviously-not-touched-by-cancer person but I was their ride. I was blessed by the welcoming arms of his parents and extended family. It was beautiful. It was truly a gift to have met the Bartels family! When we left, I touched his baby bald head and said good-bye. He earned his wings last week.

To make a difference, we need to look, we need to touch, it needs to be real. So, I have invited a few of my friends to tell you what cancer is like. They want to share a piece of what is their life; their “normal.”

Mimi Avery, mother of Julian who passed away January 19, 2008. Mimi wrote this on her carepage 2 days after Julian left for Heaven.
“Empty shell are the words that came to my mind today as I laid my eyes on Julian's so very still body. It made it so real, so final... I felt like I was at the wax museum, it looked like Ju but it was just a cold, hard ,wax copy of Julian . It wasn't him , how could it ? Surely I left him at home playing with the boys... Seeing him laying in his caskett was unbelievably painful, my heart cracked a little more, a little deeper. I won't EVER get to hold my child again, EVER... Nothing is more final than that.”

Mikayla, a grade-schooler with Leukemia asks her mom at bedtime, “When you were 4 and had cancer did you have to take chemo?” Christine, her mom says, “It just breaks my heart that she thinks this is normal, every kid does this and yet it is her normal. It is her every day, it is all she knows or remembers.” She goes on to say, “I see lots of people turn their heads and act like it isn’t real. So, when you see someone who could walk away, actually stay in the fight, it means more than you will know to us cancer moms!”

Coleman, a 4 year old twin with Medulloblastoma is quite the little fighter. His carepages are filled with his sweet 4 year old lingo.
Coleman explains, “It’s hard to be hooked up to a pole all day when it’s a sun-shiny day, ann be in your hos-pita woom all day when yoa don’t wanna be there ann wish ya tould be outside in-said, but NO, ya tan’t. I wish that no more tids would det tancer, tuz it's tewwible to haffa do all-a the suff what ya dotta do. If no more tids dot it, then we tould all yust be no-mal wif no more pokes."
Coleman’s twin Caden chimed in and gave his two cents, “cancer is the worse day of my wife (life) because you don’t getta pway wif your brudder when ya weally want to. Sometimes the hospital is fun …if ya aren’t froe-in up wike Coleman does sometimes. I wish that no tids ever det tancer, so they tan haff fun all-a their days until they be daddies."

Cancer kills. Cancer is a demon that the body just can’t expel. Cancer makes me cry. If we all let it hit deep enough to cry, we will be moved to make a difference.

I am THRILLED beyond belief at the turn out so far today! It was in the late late hours of the evening that I posted the link on my blog and many carepage moms have followed suit and introduced you to this new blog!

I appreciate you stopping and wanted to give you the scoop!

There are artists waiting in the wings - sending me photos and bios each day and as soon as I have all the information I will begin posting them in the 4 sale area for you to peruse! So, even though there are only 2 of us there now...within the week you will see more and more and hopefully more. I am so excited and thank GOD for the response I have been getting from those creative hearts out there!

Also, I want to invite ANYONE to email me (click on CONTACT US) with a blog post! If you are passionate about cancer and the kids it holds for ransom - tell the world about it! If you want to showcase your child and tell a funny story or make a prayer request - write it up and email it to me and I will post them in the order I get them! I promise!

I will be posting this week about the FIRST family to receive a donation from it's 4 the kids! I am so excited to bring you this story!
